Chungking Mansions, Hong Kong

Here's something I drew a while ago, the infamous Chungking Mansions of 36-44 Nathan Road, Kowloon, Hong Kong. I rather like this Time.com description, "the great sleepless citadel." Apparently 5000 people live in it's 17 storeys. I thought I'd post it since last time I visited I was surprised to see that it's been cleaned up and repainted almost beyond recognition.

Shout it from the rooftops!

Here's one of the latest pieces I'm working on at the moment. It's now scanned into my computer and in the midst of colouring. Below are a couple of photos of it's build up.

The inspiration for this one is Hong Kong and flying into the city when it's airport was on the harbour. That and all those helicopter shots of every city in the movies.

Hong Kong, that crazy place.

A city of chaos and infinite variety. Once my home for a few years, whenever I go back I'm still amazed by it. Especially on those rare clear days, as on the right.

I think it must be where my love of architecture first began, some of it's ugly, and a lot unnecessary, and a few just down right dangerous, but together they're fascinating.












Now I live surrounded by Victorian terraces and 70's flats in cold, rainy London. Not a bad thing, just very different.
