Hello again!

Today, in an attempt to shake things up a bit I've put away my usual fine line pens and picked up a homemade bamboo one (carved from bamboo from the garden). I'm enjoying the variety in the thickness of line and that bit of unpredictability.

Who lives in a house like this?

Interiors are my latest endeavour. With my trusty new Faber-Castell Pitt pen I'm exploring imaginary homes. It'll be nice to get a little colour on this.

Here's a few doodles for good measure.

Any answers to the title question will be much appreciated. :)

Shout it from the rooftops!

Here's one of the latest pieces I'm working on at the moment. It's now scanned into my computer and in the midst of colouring. Below are a couple of photos of it's build up.

The inspiration for this one is Hong Kong and flying into the city when it's airport was on the harbour. That and all those helicopter shots of every city in the movies.

This is from another one of my little drawings in my little sketchbook that I've just finished colouring on my computer. After a bit of thought I decided to name it Pots, Pans and Dirty Dishes.

I made this little drawing in my little "goes with me everywhere" sketchbook a couple weeks back. I only wish I had such a dedicated and organised little space to do my creating.

Secret Postcard

Last night I got down to work on a little piece of illustration for a secret postcard sale for the charity Music as Therapy. Once the event is over in a couple of weeks I'll reveal what I did.


In the meantime, here's a pretty bad scan of what I drew last year for it. You may notice similarities between this and my piece The Streets of the Dream. That's due to the fact that they were both inspired by the same piece of writing from Italo Calvino's Invisible cities.


This year's one is quite different.

Monday Monday

It's been a funny old Easter Weekend here in England. It's snowed the last couple days, so much for Spring and bunnies in the grass.

Anyway, I thought I'd do a quick show and tell on what I've been working on over the long weekend. Here's a little snippet...

Carrying on with my fascination with shop signs, high-rises and dense cities, I've transported a little Waiting Girl to the metropolis (or my version of Tokyo).

Now I'll get back to the process of adding some colour on the computer and once it's finished I'll be posting the result. It's something to do on a dreary day...

Getting creative again!

After something of a creative block I'm now in the middle of a couple of new illustrations, whether they'll make it to the shop, who knows, I have plenty of abandoned drawings.

The first is The Snooker Hall, it's inspired by an old place near work that was probably great in it's day.

And the second, I'm not sure what it will be but these little sweet/toy dispensers outside a shop popped into my head and just had to be put on paper.

Fresh stuff for the Shop

Anyone who's been to my shop in the last couple of days may have noticed it's looking a bit sparse. Actually, it's looking just like it did when I first opened. That's because I'm changing how I make my prints. My fancy new printer has just come through the door and I've got a stash of lovely paper.

This also means that my new collection of prints will be making their way into the shop. Here's a little sneak preview:



Looking forward to a rejuvenated shop once I've figured the printer out. It's an HP B9180 by the way. That means potentially 200 year lasting prints. I'm so excited I could give it a hug.

I'm one of the "Fantastic Four"!

Well, no. Actually, the "Fab Five".

So, I submitted my blog to FuelMyBlog last week and just got an email in about this. That's a real compliment, especially since it's barely a week old.

And a glimpse into the mess that is my workspace aka the dining room table, no longer used for dining.

These are inspired by Chinatown NY, my latest fascination. I love the architecture, the shop signs and the occasional randomness.

Let's begin

So, the kettle's boiling away in the kitchen and I'm sat in front of the computer deliberating my 1st 'proper' post. Some pictures are needed, I believe.





These are part of a series I've nicknamed 'Waiting Girls'. Not the most imaginative of names, I know. I drew these with a newly bought Sepia ink pen, all very exciting, on 6"x4" blank index cards, then scanned and coloured them on the computer.

In this time the kettle has boiled and I've finished my cup of tea.
